Rise of the Guardians [Average] The CG work was exceptional - as you'd come to expect from Dreamworks - though the plot felt a little lacklustre in places. A good family flick with potential for future instalments or prequels which show imagination and poignancy. Skyfall [Good] This film grew on me. It's a reflection of the changing times, and closes the chapter on the old Bond style (they blew up the DB5) and ushered in the new with a reversion to skill of the agent in the field instead of a reliance on gadgetry. A much more human film, though tech did play it's part with electronic warfare (naturally), and the transition of M and Q were appropriate. Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows [Average] More of the same from Guy Ritchie, Holmes & Watson. The originality of the first one has worn off, and while this is well implemented and visually stunning in places, it feels a little "grey". It's a good piece and Moriarty - well played by Jared Harris - is a good arch villain. I felt that Holmes' visualisation routine was a little overplayed, though the bullet time elements worked well. The Watch [Poor] Ben Stiller generally makes funny films. Though this seems more like a diversion from his usual form to be more edgy to appeal to the current audience with this film which prefers vulgarity over humour. Many times did I think "just stop swearing and get on with it". It seemed to borrow from B-movies but not elevate them with its quality cast. Nice idea, but poorly implemented.
