Actors: Robert Downey Jr.
More of the same from Guy Ritchie, Holmes & Watson. The originality of the first one has worn off, and while this is well implemented and visually stunning in places, it feels a little “grey”. It’s a good piece and Moriarty – well played by Jared Harris – is a good arch villain. I felt that Holmes’ visualisation routine was a little overplayed, though the bullet time elements worked well. Enjoyable but not as much as the first.
Enjoyed this movie, though it was a broad undertaking which had a couple of slow moments. Some good references – flying monkeys, adopted son, and Stan Lees’s cameo among others – and well-paced action sequences. The big finale was very fluid and the whole thing fits well together. Not an Oscar-winning script, but a solid actioner picking up on all the back stories, though a global alien invasion might be a tough act to follow.
