Given the prior Bond trilogy, I had expected greater things of this edition and probable conclusion to the threads. Unfortunately, it felt more formulaic and too moody in places as if juggling the former’s gravitas as interludes between archetypal set pieces. As a result, it felt less grounded than previous outings.

This film grew on me. It’s a reflection of the changing times, and closes the chapter on the old Bond style (they blew up the DB5) and ushered in the new with a reversion to the skill of the agent in the field instead of a reliance on gadgetry. A much more human film, though tech did play its part in electronic warfare (naturally), and the transition of M and Q were appropriate. Q felt a little too “IT Crowd” which seemed out of place, but holds promise for future instalments.
