Retro spy thriller with a cool soundtrack. Solid action sequences with enough intrigue to keep you guessing most of the way along, though at times felt like it could have done with a touch more editing. There’s a possible option for sequels, though the mystique of the play has been laid bare and that could become ‘just another spy story’ so unlikely.
Taught thriller though some characterisation could have been more fleshed out and some of the main characters felt wooden. The plot-line did feel a little too conceived rather than conceivable and the pieces could have been summed to make a greater whole.
A sci-fi movie on the surface, yet underneath a human story of how love conquers all. This story is told well and its exposition throughout the movie is well done. There are some expansive uses of CG for the panoramic scenes, though this is more to paint the environment more completely. The movie can feel slow at times, but the overall structure unfolds like a many-petaled lotus and all the loose ends are tied up with a positive outcome. A warming film in a bleak landscape.
